It's funny how the whole world seems to crash before you go on vacation. My dear husband has put up with many crises this past week including a contractor threatening to take him off the job if he leaves. (this trip has been planned since last August so it's not like people didn't KNOW it was coming) And then of course we had two employees go "missing" on Friday with a truck full of tools. Apparently they had partied a little too much on Thursday night and decided to just keep going into Friday and not tell anyone, including their wives and their boss. Juergen has been up and down the 401 like a rubber band. Because of all of these mishaps he is working today as well. I love this man and all he does for us. So, to wrap up:

Threats to have job contract taken away - Mega $$$$$

Employees' night of fun at our expense - $400.00

Bottle of Advil to take away the migrane it caused - $5.99

Finally getting to go on vacation with your family for 2 weeks - priceless

With age, teeth are the first things to go....

Isn't the birthday girl purdy? These horrible looking teeth were a "half-birthday" present for Jack. A silly tradition started by my Mom when my sister Melody and I were young. We were 2 years apart in age but very close. When one had a birthday she treated us like twins and got us both a present - sometimes the same thing! Sucker that I am, the tradition continues. Jack got the teeth and SpongeBob boxers. He was thrilled.

You Say It's Your Birthday...

Eight years old today! I can't believe it, how fast time flies when you're not paying attention. When I was first dating Juergen, my sister's daughter Meghan was just two years old and a doll! Juergen had a soft spot for her with her dark hair and dark brown eyes. He often said he wished he could have a little girl just like her. I didn't think it possible! But I tell ya, the day she was born and she presented herself to us, it was unbelievable - she was the spitting image of Miss Meghan. She looked like a rosebud - her coloring was a perfect warm pink, she had dark brown hair with brown eyes to boot. Juergen had gotten his wish...and I had gotten the little girl that had kicked me so hard during my pregnancy that I thought it could only be a boy.

Being 7

Ahh, the joys of winter. Today is yet another "snow day" for the kids - buses were cancelled again due to ice rain. Today is Ellie's last day of being 7 years old. I can't believe it's been 8 years since Juergen drove me to the hospital - with my permission to go WAY OVER the speed limit. I told him "You always want to speed - NOW is the time to do it!" I was actually hoping he'd get pulled over so we could get a police escort! This baby was on a mission and she wasted no time coming into the world. She's such a funny kid. She has an "old soul" and is very perceptive. She brings us joy and laughter every day.

The Bachelor

This HAS to be the most stupid show out there. And now the brillaint minds at ABC have decided to poison Paris - the City of Lights - with this American smack-down version of "cat-fight-for- the-good-looking-doctor". It never ceases to amaze me how a large group of beautiful, intelligent women will check their brains at the door to try to find true love with a complete stranger - who is also dating 11 other women at the same time. And they usually throw in one special girl just to spice things up.

Yes, this is how I would want to find my true love if I were single. Alas, there can only be one woman ... he must choose! But who? More likely - WHO CARES?

Karma and Paying It Forward

One of tv's new, hottest shows is "My Name Is Earl". In it, Earl wins a small lottery, and, after an epiphany, he is determined to transform his good fortune into a life-changing event as he sets out to right all the wrongs from his past. As he says " Do good things and good things will happen to you - do bad things and they'll come back to haunt you. I'm talkin' about karma."

I believe in this - as much as I do in "Paying it Forward". Now don't get me wrong, I am not superstitious in any way. Here's how I see it. A while back a guy let me cut in to the Tim Horton's Drive Thru Lane before him (which could be dangerous as I could've been ordering sandwiches for 20 people) I saw that small gesture as a very kind act - lots of people ignored me as I patiently waited to turn into the line but this guy took the time and let me in. So, to pay it forward I paid for his coffee while paying for mine. Do I think something good is going to happen to me because I did this? No. But hopefully that guy will keep doin' what he's doin'. And to all the people who wouldn't let me in?

Karma's a bitch! ;)

"Stuff" - and the Meaning of Life

It's funny how much STUFF you can accumulate over the years. How much STUFF we think we need. Do I need 8 chopping knives? Do I need 2 curling irons, a flat iron and a hot air brush? Do I need 5 different face creams? Do I need over 50 wine glasses and various stemware? (maybe if I have a really big party) Do I really need a purse to match every wardrobe? I think not. Every three months or so I rampage through this house with garbage bags full of items I feel are bogging me down - good riddance I say! But the real question is why do I have to do this every couple of months? *WHERE is all of this stuff coming from?
The first trip we ever took together as a family we stayed in a lovely house in Puerto Plata. This house had the bare necessities (until we came along and dragged all of our STUFF into it!) I sat there one day and thought - this is nice. Uncomplicated. Un-cluttered. The lure of *stuff can be as intoxicating as a good glass of chilled white wine. Dealing with the accumulation of stuff is like dealing with the hangover aftermath of one glass too many. When will I ever learn?

Rainy Days and Rainy Nights....

My dear sister Melody called me at 6:30 a.m. to tell me all buses had been cancelled. Kind of a nice treat as I could lay my head down and go back to sleep. The kids had gotten up around 8:00 a.m. and I was still in bed so I waited to see what they would do - they didn't know the buses had been cancelled. So, I get up and there they are the two of them snuggled on the couch watching t.v. The reason they didn't wake me? I hadn't been feeling well the night previous so they thought they would let me rest. Love those kids. :) Then of course I faked them out and said we had to rush to school as we were late. You shoulda seen the faces!

Shame, huh?

Idiot of the Week

Don't know this person but honestly, what WERE you thinking??

And the losers are...

Kenny Mayne (sporst caster dude) and Andrea Hale!

You may know him Jamie, seeing you're into sports. The guy could not move. It was painful to watch. So good riddance to a BAD dancer.

Dancing with....the stars?

O.K. I admit it - I LOVE this show! So glad it's back on. It's a show I can watch with my kids and somehow we regard ourselves as acredited ballroom dancing judges. Funny how that goes. My fav's so far- the pretty female wrestler (woah, I guess I haven't watched wrestling in a LONG time) Lisa Rinna (she's a doll!) Tia Carrere (you go girl - one month after giving birth!!) Drew Lachey (Nick's less-famous brother) and George Hamilton - the tanned, older version of last season's John O'Hurley. The two sports guys? I feel sorry for their partners. And the rap artist? Say goodbye Ashly, too bad they didn't hook you up with someone less Frankenstein-like. And my final comment? Tatum O'Neal. Owch! Great dancer but I think the girls needs some ritalin! She's painful to watch in the post interviews as she seems to be all over the place. So tonight someone gets kicked off. Shouldn't be that tough of a choice...

How can I get any work done on the computer when this face is always nudging me? :)

Wait! The Tim's has kicked in and I am now flitting - yes, FLITTING about this place like Olivia Newton-John in her "Let's Get Physical" video. Wish I could find my leg warmers from 1980....

Waiting for the "Tim's" to Kick In

See the Google blurb at the top? I am trying it out just for fun. Turns out you can get paid if people click on the ads on your blog. They don't tell y ou exactly how much which I think is part of the initial intrigue.

I am having a hard time getting back into the swing of things around here. All of my Christmas decorations are still up and every morning I awake somewhat disappointed that they haven't put themselves away.

The kids are still off school this week (why, I do not know) so our schedules have gone out the window. Late nights. Late mornings. Pj's still on at 10:14 a.m. I have officially turned into a slob.
I am waiting for that "Let's-Get-Organized-It's-A-New-Year" feeling to overcome me.

So far - nuthin'...

My, how time flies...

Happy New Year to one and all. For me, New's Years has taken on a whole new meaning. It's one more year I have gotten through. Survived! Not necessarily in a bad way but one more year that I have gotten stronger. The loss of my brother Vic is still overwhelming but time heals the wound a little each day. It can never heal the loss we all feel but the feelings and emotions are less raw. Last Christmas was so hard ... this Christmas I concentrated on Victor being in heaven at the most magnificent time. Being part of a celebration like no other! And being a Christian I know that someday I will see him again - what a wonderful thought. Until then I will make the best use out of my life. My New Year's Resolution? To be more charitable! We are so blessed and someone once said "Giving makes you feel good....but we have to give until it hurts!" God has only put us on this earth for a short time and I plan to make good use of it.

P.S. Our family received great news in this new year - my oldest brother Michael got engaged to his love Trish and we are so thrilled for both of them!
