On second thought I think I'll hold it...

This toilet is found on a public corner and is surrounded by one way mirrors...I cannot even imagine using this! Stage fright anyone?

The Waiting Game.
This is a clever little trick that Wilbur thought up this week. He gets tired of chasing Ellie all around cuz he can never catch her so instead he sits and waits. Then when she approaches him, thinking he is totally docile, he pysches her out and pounces on her when she is 2 inches away from his face. It is pretty comical to watch. I am sleep deprived because of this puppy. I can longer say "no messes in the house" and the bags under my eyes would be charged extra at the airport. But I still love the funny little guy.

Speaking of funny little guys, I was just introduced to Crazy Frog by my friend Janet's son. I am warning you - once you watch this short video you will not get the song out of your head. Bing Bing!

I cannot wait for yard sales to begin. It is my fav time of the week. You just never know what treasure you will find and that's exciting. I'd better check the paper today - we've had 5 gorgeous days in a a row and that may inspire someone to start early.

I have to hop in the shower now...or the pitiful excuse we like to call a shower. Ugh - there's absolutely NO water pressure which makes rinsing your hair as painful as Chinese water torture.

Getting Through the Week...

Yes, another shot of Wilbur, couldn't help myself!

We've had a couple of beautiful days here - nice and sunny which really makes it feel like Spring is on its' way. I was just thinking the kids will be out of school in just two short months. Where does the time go? Summer will be here soon!

My computer is driving me nuts! I know it's time for an update but that's just not in the cards right now. I am finding it hard to resist the urge to hurl it towards the other side of the room. It freezes up a lot and is just otherwise miserable.

I HAD to go to Walmart today and of course walked out of there having spent $75 - on what? Not sure. Juergen called me on my cell and I was aimlessly walking through an aisle, mesmerized by the "rollback" prices which continually caught my eye. He heard the loud speaker in the background and said "Are you in Walmart?" "Why, yes. Yes I am." (no gettin' out of that one)

I have been struggling for the past couple of weeks missing my brother Vic. Today is a better day. I have to remind myself to take one day at a time. I love this picture of Vic as it shows how kind and sweet he was. His personality certainly shines through, don'tcha think? Someone reminded me the other day about God's plan for us. God is in control and I have to trust in Him. But wow, missing Vic can sometimes be debilitating. An update to this blog I wrote earlier today - I just watched my wedding video with my kids (I've haven't watched it in YEARS) In it, during the reception the video shows Vic and I dancing together. The song? "Tears in Heaven" by Eric Clapton. I think this is the sign I was asking for this week.

My Pass-Along Promise for today? "The journey may be difficult but your rewards will be great." Amen.

The second night is the hardest...

These pics are from Wilbur sleeping yesterday. (emphasis on the day part) He was up quite a bit last night cryin' and carrying on. I think some of those cries even turned into temper tantrums if that's possible!

I think it would be easier to get a puppy when you're in your twenties - you're up all night anyway. But hey, I am pushin' 37 here and I am used to getting my beauty sleep uninterrupted! I know, I know, I asked for it. Let me just say - it's a good thing he's so darn cute! Oh, another good thing - STILL no messes in the house!

P.S. to Shannon - Wilbur is an old english sheedpdog :)

The First Night is the Hardest...

Well, the first night went o.k. No messes in the house yet and that's a good thing. Mr. Wilbur had never been crated so he sure didn't like that idea. We both fell asleep in the livingroom last night and at midnight I took him outisde for his last potty break. Then, into the dreaded crate. He did fuss for a while but then settled in for a long night - woops - I mean til 4:00 a.m. when I had to take him out again for another potty break. Then, more fussing and back up again at 6:30 a.m. It is now 8:00 a.m. and he was very tired after playing with the kids before school so now he is back in there sound asleep. I think he will like the crate more and more - it's a safe haven for him where no one can bug him.

I must say he looks rather docile in the pics but actually he's a little devil and he LOVES to play - and to bite...great. We'll have to nip that in the bud. ;) Oh you poor people who read my blog - you will be herein inudated with photos of this pup!

It was wonderful to hear the birds chirping early this morning...I so miss that in the winter months. I just noticed the cutest little chipmunk outisde the window while I am typing this. I find them cute... squirrels, not so much. It is a beautiful sunny day here for which I am thankful for - I fear the mud situation may drive this girl over the edge.

We picked up Wilbur today and he is a sweetheart of a at first sight!

Memories of Cuba

This is a picture of my sister, her husband and kids on vacation in Cuba this past week. Is this a good lookin' family or what? :0)

Das Boat

My husband is turning the big 5-0 this year... and a couple of his good friends from college too. A few years ago this fun group decided a cruise would be a great way to celebrate. So we will set sail in November - very exciting! We have one worried traveler in the bunch so we have of course (a)teased her mercilessly and b)assured her we would bring her a whistle and a comfortable life jacket that she can wear 24/7. She seems somewhat comforted...But let me just say, things like this , this...this...
and then of course THIS! do not help calm her nerves!

Jack the DS Monster & Ellie the Clothes Horse

I started off rather rough this week but am back...

Jack is in his glory after receiving a new Nintendo DS system - a reward for having to patch his eye for 3 months. Needless to say he was thrilled and I can do no wrong in this child's eyes. (which is a big difference from last Friday night)

Ellie - the funny monkey. Tonight when she was in the bath I told her I bought a new dress. She immediately begged me to try it on saying "Oh, wait wait!...with a pretty pair of shoes!" When I hesitated she added, "C'mon - entertain me!" This is her being demure in the bath. Later when I asked Jack to get a blazer out of my closet and he grabbed the wrong piece, Ellie pushed him away and stated "Get out of the way - I know fashion!" The kids kills me...
I think she was as excited as I was when I found this fabulous purse at a local thrift store. It's classic and the price was right - just $2.99. How can you beat that I ask you?! Please! Shopping retail just isn't the same.

Katie stopped by tonight - for those of you who don't know, she is my beautiful 18 year old step daughter. Model material don't you think? :) She thought the DS was pretty cool too.

My brother Mark just got engaged to his love Lisa - he popped the question while they were on holiday in Puerto Plata. Congrats guys...we are very happy for you!

First Day of Spring and PMS

Ummm, I don't think so. Why is that at 36 years of age I still think that because it is March 20th - the first day of Spring - I will open my front door and magically the birds will be chirping, the sun will be shining and it will be warm. Not so much. It's bloody freezing here. Someone turn on the heat!

Well, I survived March Break. Now for you ladies out there, let me just say that March Break coincided with Aunt Rose. Not a good combination. The kids look at me like I've gone and lost my mind and I just want to yell "But I'm PMS-ing!" Yes, there is a reason why I seem like a bitch-on-wheels, I just can't explain it to you. And here is a snippet of my pms-induced unlogical mind.

Jack decided he wanted to run away from home on Friday evening. And he convinced his lovely sister that she would be a great traveling companion for him. Well, being blessed with a "mother's instinct" and the fact that I saw them whispering and dragging their backpacks upstairs, I knew this was a plan in motion. A few hours later Ellie asked me what time I usually go to bed - "Ten o'clock?" she ventured. This is where the jig is up. I tell them I know what they're up to and why don't they just fess up. Well, good kids that they are - they did. They actually admitted to me that they were going to run away after I fell asleep. Their bikes were on stand-by in front of the garage. They were going to ride like the wind to their Tante's house which is approx. 2 kms and 2 large overpasses away.

And this is where my brain SNAPS.

I don't get mad, I go straight for the guilt trip. "HOW do you think that would make Mom feel - getting up in the middle of the night to find my two children MISSING? How could you EVEN THINK of doing something so cruel? Mommy would be absolutely PETRIFIED! She would LOSE her mind!" ... and other blatherings that came out of my mouth ... I was very hurt to think that these two children would try and do such a thing. (remember - this is a pms mind) After my rant I cooked them supper and then made a rather grandious exit to my bedroom... sad shoulders, hurt eyes, the whole bit. I called my mother to ramble and she reminded me that this was normal. (the kids wanting to run away - not the way I handled it) Apparently my oldest brother Mike tried running away when he was three - he packed a suitcase so full he had to drag it behind him - needless to say he didn't get far. So anyway, the kids came up after they ate, and with regret in their eyes and love (sprinkled with fear?) in their hearts they apologized for making Mom feel so bad. If they were older this is where I would've said: "It's o.k. I'm just pms-ing." And all would be right with the world...

I am a Christian

I found this poem on a great blog by Darlene Schacht

When I say... "I am a Christian"
I'm not shouting "I'm clean livin."
I'm whispering "I was lost,"
Now I'm found and forgiven.

When I say..."I am a Christian"
I don't speak of this with pride.
I'm confessing that I stumble
and need CHRIST to be my guide.

When I say... "I am a Christian"
I'm not trying to be strong.
I'm professing that I'm weak
and need HIS strength to carry on.

When I say... "I am a Christian"
I'm not bragging of success.
I'm admitting I have failed
and need God to clean my mess.

When I say... "I am a Christian"
I'm not claiming to be perfect,
My flaws are far too visible
but, God believes I am worth it.

When I say... "I am a Christian"
I still feel the sting of pain,
I have my share of heartaches
So I call upon His name.

When I say... "I am a Christian"
I'm not holier than thou,
I'm just a simple sinner
who received God's good grace, somehow.

Woe Is Me

My sister and her family are gone for a week in Cuba.

I Wouldn't Recommend It...

I thought I would surprise the kids yesterday and take them to the matinee showing of The Shaggy Dog. Honestly, I knew we would be a bit late but I figured we'd miss all of the annoying previews. Well, apparently EVERY OTHER MOM in the city had the same idea I did and the theatre was packed. We had to sit in the second row. Let me just say right now that if you want an instantaneous headache this is the row for you. I always wondered how bad those seats were and now I know. Up that close, Tim Allen's coffee cup is approximately the size of my head. Running and action shots are a complete and utter blur. Your neck is kinked from having to bend it back that far. The only good thing about the movie was that I smuggled my large Tim Horton's coffee in my purse without spilling it!

What was I Thinkin'?

March Break is in full swing and I promised each child they could have a sleep over with Mom on different nights. Neither knew when the other one was getting their sleepover so there would be no hurt feelings. So, tonight was Jack's turn. He loves our king size bed because his is a twin. He snuck into my room after Ellie went to sleep last night and I tucked him in. I then went downstairs and stayed up way too late watching t.v. Of course it took me forever to fall alseep and when I finally did I hear Ellie's little voice beside me saying "I had a nightmare" (I swear, this child has not had a nightmare in FOREVER - but of course tonight she does) So I scoop her up and out her in the middle between Jack and I. Now Jack, who is the most soundest sleeper out there magically wakes up and is not happy that Ellie is messing up his "mommy and me" time. Really! I am too tired to do anything but fall back asleep. Not much longer I am awakened by not one but TWO children grinding their teeth. And Ellie's legs that seem to always want to move horizontally in a kicking fashion. This is not working out for me. The last straw? Ellie flails herself over towards Jack's side of the bed and BOOM! Their heads collide. (I hate that sound) Jack is now fully disgusted..."She just bonked my head with hers!" That's enough, I scoop Ellie out of bed at 5:00 a.m. and bring her back into her own bed. I can't believe how wide awake I am at this time. Two hours later Jack wakes me up - he wants to start his day by chatting me up. Ummm, no. He gets up, I put a pillow over my head and finally get some rest.

And to think...I have to do this AGAIN!

10 pounds and 42 days old. Oh my goodness, could you not just eat him up?! Can't wait to get him! (please remind me of this when I am training him and going out of my mind)

Pass-Along Promises

My sister-in-law Sharon gave me this wonderful little flip-book called Pass-Along Promises - Inspiration for Women. The small pages can be taken out and are meant for sharing. I love it! One side has a bible verse - the other features a inspirational quote.

I was flipping through it this morning and found this one:

"Never be afraid to trust an unknown future to a known God."
Corrie Ten Boom

Wise words. And sometimes hard to follow. I think when we have been hurt so badly we fear what may happen in the future. We forget that everything is in God's hands. We let worry overtake us. We get caught up in daily life struggles. My sister Melody said someone said to her at work "Life is not a dress-rehersal!" But she replied "Yes, it is!"

Enter through the narrow gate. For wide is the gate and broad is the road that leads to destruction, and many enter through it. But small is the gate and narrow the road that leads to life, and only a few find it."
Matthew 7:13-14

All in a day's work

I got myself up and out of bed, went directly to the kids rooms to get them up for school. Headed into the bathroom and cleaned up the toothpaste mess left from the night before. Scooped all the dirty laundry into the hamper. Got dressed, made my bed, picked more dirty clothes off of the floor. Went back into the kid’s rooms to remind them it’s time to get up. Trip over the vacuum hose on the way downstairs. Start to make coffee but then realize I haven’t cleaned the machine so I start some water in the sink. While I’m at it I clean the kids’ lunch kits that seem to have indescribable smells coming from within. While everything is soaking I head to the front room and turn on the computer. Pick up newspapers scattered on floor. Get mad at computer because it keeps acting up. Head back to kitchen while yelling at the kids to once again hurry up. Sign agendas, check homework. Make breakfast for kids, make lunches, make coffee. Tell kids to hurry up and brush their teeth and get ready to go. Fix hair for both. Kisses goodbye and have a nice day. Close door and lock it! Have shower, try to clean the shower. Give up. Soap scum too tough for me. Read paper, catch up on emails, drink coffee. Do dishes, straighten up kitchen, empty dishwasher. Sweep crumbs from under kids’ seats. Figure I might as well drag the vacuum out while I’m at it. Vacuum kitchen, get carried away and continue through the rest of the house. Head upstairs, take off the sheets on the kids beds and throw a load of laundry in. Fold laundry that’s been in the dryer for 3 days. Put away laundry that has sat at the top of the stairs for 2 days. Have some cereal, peruse paper. Check business phone, return calls. Type two price quotes and fax. Call for WSIB clearance. Open mail. Write cheques. Get bank deposit ready. Check ebay, answer any enquiries, get postage quotes. Head to bank. Wait patiently in line for 8.5 minutes. Do groceries. Pick up a Tim’s coffee, head home. Unpack groceries and put away. Make lunch. Eat while putting the rest of the groceries away. Put roast in oven. Clean dishes and wipe counter. Windex windows. Get exasperated. Give up. Put laundry in the dryer. Swiffer the floor where I can still see dust lingering. Check email again. Try and think about something interesting to blog about. Kids come home, make snacks, help with homework. Finish making the beds with the clean sheets out of the dryer. Call Mom. Set table, finish making supper. Eat. Clean up. Go visit Mom and Dad. Come home, get kids in the bath. Fight with kids to get into bed. Scream, yell, carry-on. Feel bad about it. Try to reason with kids. Make up. Kiss goodnight. Flop on my bed. Turn on boob tube. Veg. Get up. Organize sock and underwear draw again. Swiffer dust under dresser which I can see while I lay on my bed. Lay back on bed. Tell Ellie to get back into hers. Confirm with her that I do in fact have eyes in the back of my head. Answer phone. It’s Juergen asking, “So, what’d you do today?” Answer with big sigh... “Nothin’.”

Things That Make Me Go Hmm.....

Is this not adorable? A "Smart Car" from Mercedes Benz. (yes, Mercedes Benz)I got to see one up close today and they just make me smile. Surprisingly they have a lot of storage room too. I think I could fit 20 of these in my driveway!

So the March Break is upon us, what to do, what to do. We don't have any plans other than sleeping in every day. Oh - and a visit to Auntie Sharon's! :0) What else is new? My brother Mark and his love Lisa are leaving tomorrow for a trip to Puerto Plata - one week later my sister leaves for a week in Cuba.

T.V. Talk:
The more I watch The Amazing Race, the more tired I get, what's with that? They're always, running, racing, crying, falling, screaming, tripping, scheming, working, fighting. The show is EXHAUSTING to watch!

Has anyone noticed the fact that Donald Trump always seems like he's yelling on The Apprentice?

Why do Earl and his brother continue to sleep in the same hotel bed after he won all that money?

I have not watched Lost and I have to say therefore I am lost regarding the popularity of that show.

Jon Stewart was ga-ga over his special guest the other night - Neil Young. I love Neil Young. He was very charismatic and engaging. You either LOVE Neil Young or you HATE him - there is no middle ground.

Entertainment Tonight is so annoying! Tonight they were talking about "MANorexia...did Dennis Quaid suffer from it?" How STUPID is that?

I love the Oprah show but I find Oprah gets more and more "holier than thou" every day. She knows so much and just can't tolerate those who don't!

Ditto for Dr. Phil.

I miss Carrie and Big.

I have not watched Survivor at all this season and I have to say I don't miss it.

O.K. I got all of that off my chest. Whew! It's Friday night and time to chill...

Dude, You're Gettin' A Dell!

So my mother got a new computer from Dell and asked me "What ever happened to that nice fellow who did commercials for them?"... Y'know, the Dell Dude.

This is how she remembers him: his prime

This is how I remember him:
...and not so much

I am not a computer whiz by any stretch of the imagination but I told Mom I would hook up her new computer. What the hell was I thinkin'? Well, it wasn't that big of a deal but the modem was giving me trouble. After setting the whole computer up I hit a brick wall. I just could not figure it out! Then my sister Melody comes in and fixes it lickety-split. Nice. (I should say in my defence that she had to go home and look at her computer/modem connection to figure it out!) Melody saves the day! lol

Calling in Sick To Work

I called in sick today. I don't work out of the house, but that doesn't mean you can't be courteous. I called all 3 bedrooms and told them I wasn't coming in to make beds. I also called the washer and dryer and told them I wouldn't be in either. Ditto call made to the dishes in the sink. It is now noon and I am still in my pyjamas. So far I have done NOTHING today. I love Mondays.

P.S. Wilbur will be joining us at the end of March. We are so looking forward to it.

No smart remarks Jamie and Tim! ;)

Wilbur - AKA - Fulla M5

Isn't he cute? Yes, we are adopting another dog. Our last Dog "Matilda" hated Juergen. HATED him! I had to give her to my parents. So, we are going to try again. As my dear friend Janet says "Third time's the charm..."
It better be!

Just look at me!

Enough Already with the Oscars!

Just when I thought it was safe to turn on the t.v. again!

No, this morning they're doing the Post Oscars wrap-up. Oh yay. Like I haven't heard enough about this. In Hollywood they have turned the Academy Awards into a machine. The words "And Best Actor goes to..." is anticipated as much as "... And the cure for cancer is..." Have we lost all sense of mind here people? People are starving, men and women are being killed in the Middle East, but the Oscars are sooooooooo important. I understand, it's a business, winning an Oscar is big bucks. But it's also just a statue. My daughter saw all the pictures in the paper this morning and asked in reference to the Oscar -"What is that Mom?" "Oh, it's just an award I replied." Her next response? "Why do they all look so happy?" Good question Elle. Maybe they have nothing else in their lives to be happy about. I have my own Oscar thank-you very much and it's priceless - and the more people it goes to the happier I am.

My Bible!

Fun on MSN...

Take 3 cousins and put them on MSN - what do you get? Well, a lot of nonsense - but a whole lot of fun! Let's do it again soon :)

My sister told this to me tonight...

Last night when she went to bed, her husband tried to "spoon" her.

Her response?
"Honey, I don't want to start spooning because you know what that will lead to....."
He asked "What?"
Her sly and witty answer -

Fun At The Dentist

Ahhh, the joys of going to the Dentist. Not my favourite thing to do and as you can see, not Ellie's either. The kid never stops talking..."Will this hurt - will that hurt? What are you doing now?" When I was young I remember being as quiet as a mouse when I went to the butcher...-I mean dentist. We are extremely lucky to have a truly *fabulous* dentist today. He is the best, I hope this man never retires. However, after seeing his bill for two mere check-ups, I'm afraid he might do it sooner than later. That was the only true OWCH of today!
