Bon Voyage?

You know what drives me nuts? The hyphenating of names. Sure, it's all cool right now but what happens a couple of generations from now? Take for instance Shiloh Jolie-Pitt. Say she marries Gwen Stefani's little guy - Kingston Stefani-Rossdale. Does that mean their kids' last names would be named Jolie-Pitt-Stefani-Rossdale? Where does it end??

Preparing for a trip can be quite an ordeal. I like Juergen's way of dealing with it - he simply comes home the night before we leave and that's that. He has no idea of the preparation that goes into leaving for one week. Including packing everything for both of us, ironing until my arm was numb, organizing school/skating schedules, lunches, clothes and homework for the kids, getting dog food, treats and accessories ready for Wilbur, banking and calls necessary to leave the business for one week, and the list goes on.... vacation indeed!

My parents have taken on the rather large task of watching the kids AND Wilbur for us. Frankly, I'm more worried about Wilbur than I am about the kids. I liken him to two-year-old twins with A.D.D.
Mom and Dad, I love you. Godspeed. ;)

The Whole World Has Gone Mad!

I hate ironing. I try to stay away from clothes that need it as I feel it is a rather tortuous chore. In this day and age why can't we invent a nice, crisp, cotton or linen shirt that doesn't need to be ironed? I have been ironing my life away because unlike the other vacations we have been on, going on a cruise means you have to dress up. And that means dress shirts. Lots of 'em. But I'm not complaining!!

I was absolutely sickened by Michael Richard's racist rant after he was heckled on stage at a comedy club. The guy is clearly over the edge and needs help. It always amazes me when during the obligatory apology these type of people add "And I'm not even a racist..." Umm, YEAH YOU ARE!

Another funny little story in the (fake) news is the tiff that Kelly Ripa and Rosie O'Donnell are currently in. Over Clay Aiken! You just can't make this stuff up! Here's the story: Clay was filling in for an MIA Regis. During an interview Aiken put his hand over Ripa's mouth so he could interject(INTERRUPT)with a question. "Oh, that's a no-no," Ripa said, adding, "I don't know where that hand's been, honey!" Seeing Clay was being a tad on the annoying side, I don't blame her. Well, Rosie 'O thought that comment was a little homophobic on Kelly's part. (gimme a break) Kelly shot back with "It's cold and flu season and he shook hands with everyone in the audience." She also went on to say that he acted very inappropriately and that she would never place her hands over someone's mouth - not even to be funny. Which makes perfect sense...until you see this picture:

You Oughta Be in Pictures

I recently took on the rather large task of buying new sleek, large, photo albums to replace my old, bulky ones. The new photo albums hold a lot of pictures so therefore I would be saving space. I had in total over 15 albums so taking all of the pictures out was quite a job. And it seems somewhere after the time Ellie was born I ceased to organize my pictures, even neglecting to put them in photo albums at all. So now everything is organized although perhaps not perfectly sequential after Ellie came along.

I don't know if I am the only who feels this way but I always get so melancholy after I look at pictures. It makes me feel sad, not happy. I look at the kids when they were so young and cuddly and miss that time. One of my favourite times of the day was early morning when the kids would wake up in their crib. They never cried, they just simply amused themselves until I came in to get them. Snug as bugs in rugs. At that age you could do no wrong in your babies eyes. You were the end-all be-all. Now, as my kids get older I see their own personalities emerging, a willingness to sometimes disobey and argue, a lack of dependence which means they're growing up. My, how time can seem to fly in some ways and stand still in other ways.

Juergen and I are gearing up to go away on a cruise, along with 8 of our close friends. We're very excited and it couldn't come at a better time - he is so over-worked and I, so under-paid. We haven't seen much of each other lately as he has been working weekends to catch up. As Tom Petty sings, "The waiting is the hardest part..."

Dry Spell

Wow. Had a real dry spell there. Couldn't write.

O.K. I guess I'll jump right in -

I've been entering so many contests lately that I keep expecting a call to hear that I've won something. Anything! Thanks to AutoFill I can enter a lot of contests which always makes me feel like I might actually win something. Speaking of which, while I was folding laundry Friday morning I had Regis and Kelly on (I really can't stand that show anynmore but I digress) The trivia question was given to a lady who HAD WON four years ago. What are the chances of getting ANOTHER chance at winning a trip? She lost and I felt justice was served. ;)

Wilbur has discovered that our backyard is not totally fenced in (only took him 8 months but who's counting?) and now continualy takes off when I let him out. He is driving me absolutely insane. And by the way, did I mention to you that we bought an electric fence back in June and still haven't taken it out of the box??

If I hear ONE MORE THING about TomKat's wedding I think I will blow a gasket. Alright already! I think these two are starting to regard themselves as royalty. What's with that?

O.J. Simpson is despicable. Truly, What kind of a man writes a book like that? "If I did it - here's how." I pity his kids who have to have their mother's horrifc death dragged into the spotlight again.

We went to the mall today and after a brief stint in the pet store Jack decided he would like to get a mouse or a gecko. Umm, I don't think so. I got a pet for ya - his name is WILBUR.

Next Saturday will mark just one month away from Christmas. Is everybody ready???

A Good Deed = A Bad Idea

Yesterday my son got into some trouble and was reprimanded for it. This morning, before I awoke he decided to try to do something nice for me to make up for it. What did he do? He sprayed FURNITURE POLISH - wet, sticky furniture polish - all over my hardwood floors. I think some of you out there know just how slippery this can be - heck, it's slippery enough just when I get overspray from doing my wood furniture. Well, there I stood this morning after almost going ass-over-tea-kettle, aghast at the sight. (he didn't even really try to rub it in so it was still wet everywhere) This is not what I had in mind when I woke up this morning.

So, no socks around here for the next couple of weeks...

Geo Party

Years ago when my Grandmother (or Beppe as I called her - grandmother in Dutch) was still with us, I would go daily to visit her as she lived right next door. She was the sweetest woman and always had a warm smile and hug to greet you. Her Dutch accent was thick and she sometimes spoke with broken English, which I loved. I remember going over at the same time a couple of nights in a row and I would ask her what she had been doing. As soon as I came in she would shut off her t.v. ready to devote all of her attention to our conversation, but her answer beforehand was always "Watching Geo Party..."
I could not for the life of me figure out what she was talking about but like a good granddaughter, would smile and pretend I did. Finally one night curiosity got the better of me and I told her I had no idea what "Geo Party" was. She simply turned on the t.v., changed the channel and said "See - Geo Party!" And there it was - with Mr. Alex Trebeck in all of his glory - the t.v game show "Jeopardy".
Otherwise known as "Jeo-pardy."

Wilbur, Bewildered on Halloween

Well, that was funny. I uploaded the wrong video yesterday so anyone who took a peek must have thought I was nutso! Anyway, here is the video of Wilbur freaking out at the mystery videographer.

And here is why he was so concerned:

The children had their "best Halloween ever!" Why, I'm not sure. I guess they really liked their candy haul. I liked that fact that is wasn't freezing out. Jack went as a nerd:

And Ellie as her old standard - a princess. I am milking this princess thing for all it's worth. She LOVES wearing pink and that's o.k. by me. Cuz I know after pink comes purple and then BLACK. Long live pink!
