What's YOUR Ugly Ornament?

Show me yours and I'll show you mine!

We all have them. Ugly ornaments that we keep dragging out every year. Where did they come from, why do we keep them? It's a mystery.

Here is mine:

I think he came in a box of vintage ornaments I found at a yard sale. He's so ugly, he's cute. I simply cannot throw him out because he's made of mercury glass. That was his saving grace.

So, I'm dying to know...

What's YOUR ugly ornament - and WHY do you keep it?

Mine is def. a Noodle Bird (made out of hard noodles) with cheap red glitter and an actual belly button (umm, I hope it's a belly button) painted on this poor bird-like creature/ornament. It's so ugly, I'm afraid to touch it. What if it bites me? Someone must miss that ugly bird at christmas-time, because I found it in a box of books I purchased from the Library!

Oh Joy, that ornament isn't ugly. It is so sweet. I love it! I hate to say this, but some of my ugliest ornaments are ones my kids made in grade school and some my husband painted when he was a kid. Aren't I terrible? Of course I can never get rid of them, they just don't make an appearance on my tree anymore.

Joy I like your ornament, it's really cute! I don't have any ugly ones, if I hate them I give them to my mother! LOL! Then she throws them away I think...

Love that little bug eyed guy! Beauty is in the eye of the beholder so even my ugly ornament is beautiful to me. Mine is an angel that was made by a little old lady in my church. Her body is a pink shoulder pad and her head is a spray painted foam ball. The paint pitted the ball pretty badly so she looks like she had a bad case of acne. She has no facial features just a peach pitted face. Her hair is her one redeeming quality, it is soft, curly, and white topped off with a little golden crown. She is not pretty but the hands and heart that made it for me are beautiful! Thank you for your recent visit to my blog and for you sweet comments. Have a Merry Christmas.

Kijsa has collected santa ornaments for years, and keeps them all- the more "interesting" ones shall we say, are stuffed into the tree, just to be glimpsed among the more fabulous ones.

oooh- that did sound kind of sad when we sad that, maybe we will go give some fugly ornaments their time in the limelight!

blessings,
kari & kijsa

You won't believe this but I 'grew up' with the twin of your ugly ornament! I have no idea who bought him, or where he came from, but as far back as I can remember...when I was a very small child, we put that same little old ugly Santa on our tree every year! I even inherited him when I got married & set up house. He did finally break..& was thrown out but I have to say that I do miss the little guy. ha

LOL! Mine is a 19702 white mouse in a santa hat. The mouse is grey now and all roughed up. I kept it cause it brings back childhood Christmas memories!

Joy....great post! I think my ugliest ornament is a Raggedy Ann a friend made me 30 yrs ago out of dough. I think she may have been nibbled on or something 'cause she's a mess and crumbling to pieces. She didn't make the Christmas tree this year. ~ Lynn

We have one ugly "ornament", and i use that term loosely. It is made of wax, like one of those wax lips that kids get and chew. My son,(at the time he was about 10), now 18, took that wax and formed a little "butt", and put a hook on it for the tree. Every year he is so excited to find his "butt" still in the box of ornaments. I keep it, cause that is about the most artistic thing he has ever created! sad.

Uh, I thought ornaments were like dogs and babies. No such thing. Still, I have several that some people might put in that category, but probably top of the list, not counting the ugly 1970s ornaments I bought because I was desperate to have some ornaments, are the very old, German elves. Not really an ornament, they're quite large, about a foot tall and have a big, round belly that is made of..... oh, I can't describe them. Everyone says they look evil and I didn't get them out this year, but Lena has one just like them and she had hers out and he didn't look so evil, so I think I'll get mine out today. I'll take a picture.

I love ugly ornaments!! I have this little walnut that has a baby inside and has wheels on it. I love it because it was donated after the little old lady who owned it died. And I always imagine what she was like.. And I love her ugly little walnut... :)

You're right, they can be so ugly, that they are adorable. for me, this year, it was all the little cup cake topper ballerinas that I made into fairy ornaments. Now, that part is cute, but the faces that were painted onto these gals years ago were pretty sad- some would have made prettier monkeys!

He reminds me of Eric Cartman from South Park.

Oh, you're so funny. I'm going to look on my tree to see! In all honestly I have a LOT of ugly ornaments because i have 3 boys (ages 5,6,8)... so I get a lot of homemade ones! I keep them for sentimental reasons :)
