And He Doesn't Even Know How to Turn on Our Computer...

A convo between hubby and I this past weekend...

The scene:

Hubby is on top of the scaffolding painting and I am painting underneath the ladder which is part way underneath the scaffolding...(don't ask)

ME: "Wouldn't it be funny if the scaffolding collapsed and fell on this ladder, and then the ladder collapsed, fell on top of me and killed me? What a story you'd have to tell when people would ask you how your wife died."

HUBBY: (with a smirk) "Yeah..."

"...and then I'd blog about it."

The paint fumes are gettin' to us people!

For the Love of Buttons...

The ever-cute Analise from Sugar*Sugar is hosting a "Show Us Your Buttons" challenge. I happen to love buttons and snatch them up whenever I see them - may fav's being cream and white in all shapes and sizes. I started looking through my pictures and never realized just how many pics with buttons I had!

This is my newest find. I purchased this vintage test tube holder on ebay and knew instinctively what I was going to do with it...

Snug as bugs in rugs!

This chic wire purse (*sold - thanks!) is filled with large cream and white buttons. I have been filling this baby for a while now - the trick is the buttons have to be a large size otherwise they slip through the holes. Every time I find another large size button in it goes!

I just love these old
crown buttons, they are a heavy weight and feel so good in the hand!

I sold this pair of button jars when I first opened my website. I just love the pale blue and cream combination.

This old clear box was filled with old cream buttons. There were tons in here...

This glass button jar has a glass stopper and is pretty in pink!

It's larger cousin is also available here.

Buttons - the ultimate stress relievers...

You can never have enough...

Sometimes I think I could drink them all up!

Ding Dong! Nobody's Home...

I can't tell you how much fun we've had with this old door bell...

I tell ya, it's a good thing Wilbur's cute because he's not the sharpest knife in the drawer...

Welcome to my nightmare...

This is what my weekend looks like...hope yours looks better!

One Blinged Out Bird Cage!

It's time!
Time for Karla and Beth's Bling Your Birdhouse Party!

Last Tuesday I was in a rush to get somewhere and wondered if I actually had the time to sneak into one of my fav thrift stores. As I pondered, I felt my truck veering into that direction, almost willing me there. I walked in, browsed around and then suddenly, I saw it....

Oh my. An antique bird cage in the most fab shade of cream. And huge! My heart raced as I walked over hoping there wouldn't be a "sold" sign marked on it. There wasn't....

You could not wipe the smile off of my face. People commented on the lovely cage as I walked to the cash, one asking "What are you going to do with it?" My simple answer - "Decorate!"

Best of all, I knew I would blog about it for Karla and Beth's birdhouse party (they said bird cages were o.k. as well) and I wouldn't really have to do a thing to it. ;)

I am now debating whether to keep it or sell it. We are renovating and I don't know if I have a place for it....I'm really worried if I keep it that I'll end up getting a real bird!

For now, this vintage bird is diggin' her new place...

A special thanks to Karla and Beth for hosting another fun party - these girls are the best hostesses, aren't they? :)

Vintage Finds...

Well, I spent a good couple of hours yesterday morning calling Credit Agencies to make sure the culprit who stole my credit card didn't try to steal a whole lot more. It looks like I am safe. Thank-you Lord.

Renovations are is full swing and the dust is flying! You know how when you finally tackle a project and then you realize just how much work it will actually be? Our living room has a loft ceiling and that entire ceiling, including three dormers, has to be painted. Poor hubby has his work cut out for him! I am his dutiful helper.

Now for some new shop/ebay updates...because I have never found the right spot for it, I listed this antique grate. (Sold - thanks! )I love it because it isn't flat like most you see - this one has the rounded dome insert that is removable.

These vintage talcum powder tins were a great find! I managed to score a large lot of 'em...

This wonderful old Smith Corona
typewriter is also on my website. Even though it has the ever-popular "Floating Shift" key, I couldn't bear to pry off the keys because...

It comes in this most fabulous case - it's covered in fleur de lys! So fab to display...

And finally, this vintage hooked rug is currently up for bids on ebay - I started it at $9.99...

I am so excited for Karla's "Bling Your Bird House" party tomorrow! I have been wondering what to do for weeks now, and I just couldn't get inspired. I have a couple of old bird cages but the ideas were not coming to me. Well, the other day I stumbled upon THE most fabulous vintage birdcage ever. It has taken everything in me to not post about it! Best thing is - it's so over-the-top I don't have to do a thing to it. So tomorrow I will post pics of it. Be sure and stop by!

My Living Room is Gone!

And that's a good thing!

Hubby and I have been ready to re-do our living room for a very long time and yesterday we decided to start this HUGE undertaking. First, the couch that we bought for comfort - not looks - (big mistake!) made it's way to the basement rec room where it will be well loved by the kids. It was a rather large sectional that didn't allow me to re-arrange the furniture whenever my little Gemini-fueled-mind wanted to and that was a problem.

The paint color was a very large bone of contention between hubby and I. I don't recall ever really wanting the moss green that was up on the walls but low and behold it's there. This time I held my ground and politely informed him that I would be choosing the paint color. After much deliberation he gave in. I want a really seamless feel in this room and the color I have chosen is a linen white.

So now I am without our living room - the place where we all hang out and watch t.v. It's so empty in there now that it actually echoes! The large wall unit that graced the far wall is now in the basement as well and a flat screen will take it's place. The couches - and chairs - that are on order are a warm cream and a classic design - but also very comfortable. (and surprisingly quite affordable!)

The windows also need addressing. Big time. They will be painted and then dressed with light and airy sheers. I can't wait for this makeover to be complete!

In all of the excitement of moving furniture yesterday I hit my baby toe a total of THREE excruciating times. The first time I rammed it into the round coffee table in the first pic. Hit it so hard that I dramatically fell to my knees, in hopes that someone would see me and feel very sorry for me. Didn't happen. They were all downstairs. Then, a few short hours later I magically hit the same toe against a column in the basement. Again with the dramatics - this time I had an audience to share in my pain. Sweet commiseration! And then finally, if two times were not enough to hit the very same injured toe in one single day, I hit it on the couch in our office. Expletives flew from my mouth like they were armed and ready to do so. The pain was unreal. When I went to bed last night and I pulled off my sock, I was shocked to see that it was purple and bloody. I don't know why, but I actually felt better. My pain was visible and I proudly showed it to all of my family members like it were a badge of of honor. A casuality of design. But oh, it will be worth it!

In other exciting news, my sister Melody has finally started a blog! If you have a minute, please stop by for a quick visit, she'll be thrilled. :)

UPDATE as of noon Monday:

Very disturbing news - my credit card company called and apparently someone has been using my card for the last week. They've used it for gas purchases, restaurant and grocery purchases - and most disturbingly - to buy a credit report. Well, of course I am petrified that they have bought my credit report and now plan to do some major damage in my life. And just a heads up girls - I have never lsot this card, left it anywhere - and I am the only card holder on this account. How they got the number is beyond me. So right now I am on hold (20 mins so far) with one of two credit agencies to see if in fact my credit report has been breached. Please keep your fingers crossed for me...

Easter Preparations

My sister Melody are part of the Worship committee at church and had the duty of making some eggs for this Sunday's service...

Melody, who is notoriously-

...had quite the production line going. We needed an egg for every member of the church!

Each egg was filled with jelly beans and rested on a tag which read:

Red is for the blood He gave,
Green is for the grass He made.
Yellow is for the Sun so bright,
Orange is for the edge of night.
Black is for the sins we made,
White is for the grace He gave.
Purple is for the hours of sorrow,
Pink is for a new tomorrow.
An egg of jellybeans, colorful and sweet, is a promise, a prayer, and a loved one's treat.

This large wicker basket ended up filled and overflowing!

My thanks to everyone who voted in The Hope Jar Poll... (you still can vote below if you haven't already) I am very surprised at the results! I think it's a toss-up between Healing (which I think would be wonderful for cancer patients) and Pet Loss. Pets are very near and dear to our hearts and the grief we experience when we lose them is real and palpable. Any pet owner can attest to this. 'Sisters' is also a top contender it seems. The voting is co close! Hmmmm..... I'm leaving the poll up and hope to see more votes come in. :)

Your Opinion is Appreciated!

I am thinking of adding a new Hope Jar to the line-up and have a few ideas. What do you think?...

"The Joy is in the Journey"

Saw that sign - and smiled - in my fav antique store "Memory Lane" today. Did I tell you that the owner of the store stashes stuff in a special white cupboard that only Janet and I know about? Is that not the coolest thing? So my heart goes pitter-patter as I make my way over and see what treasures are hidden away for us. Today I found these wonderful vintage German Christmas ornaments. So sweet! Thanks Karen. :)

Also found these fabulous old, well, to tell you the truth, I don't know WHAT they are. I think they had something to do with bill collecting. They have holes in them for hanging and I think they'll make great note holders by the door. Hey, if it's old - it's sold! That should be my new motto.

These old trinket boxes came in the mail for me today. I am going to clean them up a bit and see what I can do with them....

Very excited - Dancing With the Stars - aka DWTS - premieres tonight! I just love that show and really enjoy seeing how the 'stars' progress in their dancing. Best of all I can watch it with the kids which is more than I can say for other shows on at the same time period.

Off to make supper now - hope you find joy in your journey today!

What I Want to be When I Grow Up

When I was young I wanted to be a marine biologist and work with dolphins. Well, that never happened but my love for dolphins remains strong!

This photo was taken in holiday in Puerto Plata and I have to laugh every time I look at it. My face is beaming with joy (pun intended) and the dolphin is smiling - and sticking out his tongue. Too funny!

Shop Update

I'm adding some new goodies to my shop this week including sets of this assortment of unused, antique seed packages from the Card Seed Company of Fredonia, NY. They feature the most divine graphics and date to the 1920's.

My head is spinning with the possibilities...

They would be wonderful for use in scrapbooking, altered art, using as gift cards or for decorating in your potting shed or garden....

I've also made up some custom vintage wallpaper tins. These are fun! Each tin is unique and is covered in vintage floral wallpaper and tied with vintage seam binding, ric-rac and millinery flowers.

Inside you will find over 25 samples of old wallpaper for all of your crafting needs!

O.k. enough self-promotion...I feel cheap! lol

*Calling all California girls!*

I need your help. As we are going to be in San Francsico near late May, I was wondering if anyone of you knew if there are any flea markets or hot junking spots we should try to fit in? I'd love to hear any and all suggestions. :)
