It's Coming Together...

The painting is complete! Woo-hoo! I feel like having a party! Except we have no furniture yet....

We are currently waiting for our rug, couches, two arm chairs and the new buffet-style unit which will sit underneath the t.v. But the painting is done!! And I love it, it totally opens up the room and it is so much brighter.

There was a whole lot of Spring cleaning going on here today. And we only reached the tip of the iceberg. There's so much more to be done but I was able to drag out some of my treasures that were stored and re-organized this bookcase.

I decided to change the vignette on this old farm table.
(best viewed in full size, just click on it)

I soon realized that this was the perfect place to display my "Fowl and Chicken" creation. I had planned on selling it but I just can't let it go. (for now anyway!)

I scored the cream drawer at the 'junk' place Janet, Karen and I went to last week for $5.00. Wait- it was 50% off, so really it was only $2.50! I just loved the look of it and decided to put it out where I could enjoy it. Of course, I had to "ram it full" as hubby would say. I don't care, I love my junk!

I don't know about you ladies, but sometimes I really wonder what exactly my style of decorating is. I am torn between some new sleek styles, chippy old stuff and European old world. I decided just to mix the new with the old and not let any decorating magazines try to dictate to me what I should be doing. I will just decorate with what I love and somehow it will all come together. Right?

Above is an old display case which I covered with my old prescriptions. Can you tell I love cream? Although I love it, I am going to sell it.

Maybe.

Perhaps...

;)

What a difference the white paint makes. It looks wonderful.
I think everything you have in your home should bring a smile to your face and make you feel good - whatever it's style.

Your pictures are so pretty, I had to go back and read your blog carefully to make sure you weren't posting magazine pictures and saying "this is what I'd LIKE my house to look like"- they are just wonderful- and SHOULD be in a magazine!

A lot of work has been done but it's so rewarding! I think that combining things you love always works. Well who cares about 'style' anyway? Just tell people who do care that it took a while, some effort and yes some money too (some people just want to be 'impressed') to create your own and personal "Joyfull" style, which will be patented at the same bureau where Rachel Ashwell has patented her shabby chic style, or am I totally carried away now?

Enjoy your home and your styling!

;-)

ps thanks pointing me the Cavallini hotel label series, I like those, but why did hotels stop giving (yes of course I want them for free) them?

It is looking gorgeous! I know just how you feel. I look at so many different styles all day (being an interior designer) that I sometimes get confused about what my favorite styles are. I really love so many of them. So, mix them up all up and call it your style. It will look wonderful! I dislike the labels anyways, they are too boring if you follow them literally.

Happy day!

I don't think you have to name your style. I call mine, "Buy anything that takes my fancy and make it fit". That's my style! It's probably yours as well!!

Looking fabulous Joy and, like you, I think we should decorate with what WE love, with what brings us happiness in our homes. The decorators and shelter magazines give us ideas, but I believe it's the everyday talented altered artists, crafters, antiques dealers, vintage shoppers, scrapbookers, even bloggers, who pull all the great looks together............and don't we all fit into at least one of the above categories? Therefore do what you love, it's your home and you are living with the look you create - what could be wrong with that?

The bookcase looks amazing by the way - well everything does of course!
