'A Place in Time'

So excited about this!

I have an overabundance of clocks sitting around here (collecting dust) so I decided to take action. I took one apart to salvage the face and then thought of the idea of using the clock body as a frame for a photograph. I also have a quite a few souvenir photograph postcards laying around and decided they too should get in on the action.

So after puttering and creating I came up with the name for this new line - 'A Place in Time'.

I'll be adding these to the site very soon!

P.S. I will also be doing a more specific line called 'A Face in Time'. Just simply email me a loved one's photo and I can create a one of a kind clock frame just for you.

Kitsch or Cool?

Last week I went to the Sally Ann and happened upon this vintage Syroco shelf...I originally bought it to sell but now that it has been sitting here it's growing on me. It's backed with vintage scrolly wallpaper and I have found a spot where I'd like it to hang. (it is still sitting there - directly below that spot for a week now after telling hubby I'd like it there. Hmmm...)

He thinks it's kitschy but I know if I accessorize it right I could pull him over to the dark side.

I concede that there is a fine line between kitsch and cool....and I may very well be off on this one. What do YOU think?

I made the mistake of taking Wilbur to Ellie's soccer game Wednesday night. Of course the spot where we sat down on the grass was a mere 5 feet away from a Maltese with a very big attitude. Have you ever tired to subdue an excessively large and hyper dog who is DESPERATE to play with a diva Maltese? Wilbur - she's just not that into you! My arms are sore...

I am starting a new feature on my blog today called:

"I'm a Sucker for Good Packaging"

If you package something up really beautifully, I will buy it. Doesn't matter if I need it or not. Cuz that's-just-the-kind-of-girl-I-am.

Case in point - I fell in love with these old bonbon boxes from France. (had them on my site but they're already all sold out!) Didn't they know how to do it back then? Just think - wonderful little candies nestled into these lovely card boxes with golden raised script and a glass button elasticised closure.
*Heart swooning*

This is 'throwing-the-gauntlet-down' good packaging! I may not be able to top it!

Have a great weekend everyone!

The Process...

Every now and then I spot a diamond in the rough. I have walked by this certain trophy cup at my local flea market for months now. This past Sunday it finally came home with me.

I decided it needed a shabby makeover. I have been working so much in the cream and brown family lately that I thought I should go over the top with this one.... I decided to paint the base my fav shade of 'antique white'....

And added a pretty pink porcelain flower as well as some millinery...

And of course I had to add the *bling*!

Et voila!

She's ready for her spotlight Mr. Demille. :)
(now listed on my site - here.)

I never start with a plan - just an idea. The creative juices always get going better that way. Hope you enjoyed 'the process'!

Shades of Inspiration

Can you guess what this week's color for our group 'Shades of Inspiration' is?

Yes, blue. But the only color of blue I seem to have around the house is aqua blue. Here are some photos I'd thought I'd share...

Last day of school for the kids today. Time to start my annual summer vacation prayer:

"Dear Lord, please help me through the summer without the use of meds."

More Vintage Treasures

I've been making these old door plate hooks for a while now and just love them in the bath to hold towels or bathrobes...they're also great to hang your purse or your apron on too!

This one is chippy and the most fabulous shade of pink. Now in my shop - click here to view.

The door plates I had gotten from Carol a while back. I just love the fleur de lys detailing on them. The ivory one can be found here.

I tinkered around with this project on Saturday and I don't know if I can let it go or not...

It's a Dog Show Trophy from 1957 which I encased in an old cream display box. I added some millinery flowers to soften it up a bit. Still not sure if I will keep it or sell it!

Remember this little guy that I blogged about here?

Well, I put him up on ebay and the auction ended today. Click *here* to see the final winning bid - I was FLOORED!

Vintage Finds

Best deal of the day at yesterday's yard sales?

This vintage white chair. I had bought some fabulous old linens from a local real estate agent and then inquired about this lone chair which was holding a couple of Tim Horton's coffee's on the seat. (Canadian version of Starbuck's)

"Oh that?" she replied, "...You can have that for free. It was part of a desk set but the buyer didn't want it."

Well, thankyouverymuch! Free works for me. That was definitely the best deal of the day!

I picked up this old brass stamp holder at my last stop hoping these old test tubes I had at home would fit in it. I was thinking it would be neat to hold salt and pepper in them and cork the tops...

I just love this old beaded plant hanger. It just wouldn't be the same in other other color but pink. It has wonderful scalloped detailing with white beads on the sides. Currently on ebay...

This is a very old bottle that finally got a makeover with one of my old labels along with some millinery, bling and fringe....

I don't know if I can part with this old display stand or not. I purchased it on ebay and think I paid more for the shipping then I did for the piece itself! One of my old doctor's prescriptions found it's way inside. Very interchangeable though and I can see getting a lot of use out of it...for birthday's, holidays etc.

Hope you all had a wonderful and relaxing weekend. Now on to next week. My kids only have 2 more days of school left and I plan to use those two days to the best of my abilities!

'Bottle Beautiful'

So this idea hits me in the shower....you know when you bring a bottle of wine as a hostess gift but you want it to look nice? I rarely ever use those wine bags, I usually tie a pretty ribbon on and embellish it in some way.

Well, it came to me that I would make a 'wine cuff' - a decorative cuff that turns an ordinary bottle of wine into a 'Bottle Beautiful'. I must say my sister came up with that name. (thanks Mel!)

They slip easily over the neck of any standard wine bottle. (or any other bottled drink for that matter, including a decorative soap bottle by the sink)

They are completely re-usable so the recipient can keep it and continue to dress up her wine bottles...

Or she can do the unthinkable - re-gift!

They're now in my shop...

And so I leave you with this famous quote:

I cook with wine. Sometimes I even add it to the food.

I Did a Bad, Bad Thing

I was typing furiously away while entering an ebay listing yesterday and suddenly my hands slipped on the keyboard and the font went really small. Like this small. (smaller, really!)
For the love of Pete - I have good eyes - but not this good! I frantically started searching my favorites and see that it has affected my Hotmail. I can't even read the font on that page - it's that small - and also my blog and other blogs I read. Here's the thing - I have no idea of what I did - so how on earth do I fix it? I tried changing the font size to large on my computer under 'Appearance and Themes' but even that hasn't worked. I'm tellin' you, those Mac commercials are making more and more sense to me!! Oh me, oh my - if anyone has any advice, please let me know...

UPDATE: Victoria from Vintage Tea has solved my problem - thanks Victoria!

I've got some new additions in the shop...these faux fur duffel bags are so chic!

Just the perfect size to throw in a couple of pair of jeans, some classic tees and some make-up. And then you're good to go!

In other news...

(my Dad - far right)

I am so thankful to the good Lord above. You see, my Father's been having heart problems over the past few months and we have been worried sick. Well, he just got his test results back yesterday and his heart is fine and his arteries are apparently clean like a 'baby's'. (still trying to get my head around THAT one!) All that is wrong is his arrhythmia is off. So he will take Warfarin for the next three months and then they will stop his heart (!) and then restart it. Apparently this is common place today. I can't tell you the weight that has been lifted from my shoulders. :)

More "Things I Know For Sure"

It's time for another installation of-

"Things I know For Sure."

My last
"Things I know For Sure" post covered a lot of ground but alas - there is so much more to tackle. Life is like that I suppose.

O.K. Here goes...

-Never buy a sweater and/or pants that you worry will end up in the dryer and shrink. They WILL end up in the dryer and they WILL shrink. And then you will bang your head against the washing machine and swear that you will never do this again. (but you will)

-If you are driving with your dog in the car and have to make a pit stop, be sure and remove the box of donuts you just bought and placed on the back seat.

-When it is sunny and beautiful, you'll be tripping over your umbrella at the front door. As soon as it rains that sucker will go missing like Houdini in Vegas.

-That third helping of white wine is never a good idea. It may seem like the *best idea in the world* at the time but it is never a good idea.

-Ditto for coffee.

-Ditto for chocolate cake.

-If you're going to have an afternoon nap, make sure you check your mascara before opening the door for the UPS guy.

-No matter how much you wish for it, your laundry will never clean itself.

-That secret 'stash' closet/drawer/cupboard that you hoard everything into before you can incorporate slowly into the house without anyone really ever noticing? Your husband will find it. And most likely only on the day that he is a really BAD mood.

-As soon as you turn the t.v. channel and something inappropriate flashes over the screen is the EXACT moment that your child will walk into the room.

-Weeds will always grow demonically faster than flowers. (and so do bills for that matter)

-Never ride on a tube behind a speed boat when you're in your 30's. You may think it's a fun idea at the time but when you wake up the next day your body will unabashedly remind you that you are in fact NOT.

-If you think to yourself "Oh, make sure to remember this" - you automatically won't.

-Three days after you buy a 50 pack of pens and bring them home, you will not be able to find a single one when the phone rings and you have to take an important message. All you will be able to find is a grungy, dull, eraser-bitten-off pencil that refuses to do it's job.

-The very day you decide to wear white pants is the same day you will:

a)spill jam on them (and not just any jam- blueberry jam)
b)run into a wet, muddy, slobbery overzealous dog who somehow adores you and only you
c)get into a messy fight with the ballpoint pen you finally just found

And so concludes this installation of "Things I Know for Sure." Please feel free to add YOUR two cents! ;)

Dutch Treat ...

As many of you might know, both of my parents are Dutch, they met here in Canada approximately 50 years ago. Thought I'd share one of my favorite Dutch treats with you...wonderful, colorful sugary sprinkles ("Vruchten Hagel") that you douse onto "crispbakes" - round crisp toasts. Aren't they the prettiest color?

They're such a nice treat with tea and the kids love them too. I get them from a local Dutch store.

After 10 weeks of waiting, we finally got our carpet...they cut it a little short but it still warms up the room. Mr. Wilbur of course had to get into the shot. Now that that I am looking at this shot I am thinking - light carpet, big dog.

What was I thinking??!!

Anyway, in other news...

Natalea from Kandeland gave me this wonderful Arte Y Pico Award

This Award is "dedicated to many who nourish and enrich the spirit and creativity" as described by it's originator - http://arteypico.blogspot.com. I am so thrilled, thanks Natalea, you're a sweetie!

I would like to pass this on to a couple of girls who inspire me -
my bff Janet, Ruth (my cyber bff!)

and a new friend I recently found in blogland - KayEllen! ...

I would give it to my sister Melody but she doesn't have a blog....but check her out on Flickr. She is uber talented! :)

Hope you all have a wonderful Monday!

Memory Lane

Thought I'd share some more pictures from a fav antique store called Memory Lane.
Janet and I went over the other day and we just can't say enough good things about the owner Karen. She's a doll!

Isn't this the most fabulous old dress form? I love the fact that it has exposed metal on it...

I came very close to carting this cream colored basket home with me...

I just love this display...give me chippy white paint any day...

And don't these roses look real? Why didn't I grab this while I was there?!

This fabulous old dresser had so much charm...

And just look at this one - chock FULL of goodies!

Hope you enjoyed the tour. I am always inspired when I leave that store. :)
