Vintage Finds

Living in Canada can be such a hardship. (insert sad and depressing violin music here) The winter drags on forever while we wait for Spring - and more importantly - YARD SALES to arrive. Until then I am plugging away...trying to find new and interesting items to offer on my website. It's the thrill of the hunt for me - the more vintage - the better!

These vintage cake candle crowns are so cute...I think they'd look so darling on a cupcake!

I saved some vintage cream and pale pink buttons for another vintage button jar.

The colors are divine and so perfect for Spring!

I've made up another vintage bottle for bubble bath...this one is adorned with vintage seam binding, lace, rhinestones - and a few millinery flowers thrown in for good measure!

Love the color combo on this...

This vintage hanger would have Joan Crawford's approval! I've added some pale pink tiny millinery flowers to the front just to put it over the top...

Just look at these sweet vintage washcloth mitts - aren't they the sweetest? (all of these items will be going on the website this afternon)

I've added real German silver glass glitter to the shop as well...

The sparkle on this is AMAZING...

And finally, I picked up a large lot of these old tin cups which are just crying out to be made over. They are currently a work in progress....

Just a note about ordering on the website. I am now shipping once a week from the U.S. (I live on the border of Massena, NY) Packages arrive quicker that way and the postal rates are much lower over there. Over the past few years, Canada Post prices have sky-rocketed and seeing most of my orders are from the U.S., this is a great alternative. :)

A Handy Telephone Telemarketer Tip

I have been bombarded with a lot of telephone marketing lately. I just cringe when I see the 1-800 number come up. But I always answer because sometimes it's the bank and it can actually be important. However, lately I am getting calls from automated an voice stating "HELLO! Macy, Nordstrom's..." (this is where I hang up) O.k. first of all, we don't even have Macy's and Nordstrom's in Canada, but whatever. Today I got a call from La Senza - a lingerie store. Another automated lady calling to tell me that I need new underwear. Really! Well, I got so mad and I hit "0" just to see what would happen. Well, low and behold another automated voice came on and told me "Thank-you. Your phone number has been removed from our database."

WOOOOOO-HOOOOOOOO!!!!

The grin on my face was so big I felt like I had won the "Don't Ever Bug Me Again" Lottery!

I have been scouting some finds for my website and have a couple of new and interesting items in the works. I found these wonderful old checks today ...

I should note that we spell checks "cheques" here in Canada and when we're in a restaurant never ask for the "check" at the end of the meal - always the "bill". Funny, huh? ... Or should I say "Funny, eh?" ;) ...

Anyway, makes me feel like writing one out to myself, they're so grand. :)

Well, we've got another winter storm warning going on here. Apparently our little town is going to get dumped with a lot of snow. Oh, yay. Perhaps the kids and I will build an igloo and hibernate there until Spring comes?...

The Birds and the Bees

Well, bird and bee really. I am Spring cleaning and this print needs a new home.

It really is a sweet one...

I'm just not sure where to list it...ebay, etsy or my website. I hesitate to put it on my website because it is not perfect - the print is wavy as you can see from the back. Still presents well though....

I was tagged a while back by my blogging friend Margo, aka
Robolady, and must reveal 7 random things about myself...

Here goes:

1) I was a 'mistake'. My Mom hates it when I say that but I wasn't a planned child. She was on the pill when she got pregnant with me. Oopsies!
2) My sister is 2 years older than me and her middle name is Joy.
3) I have tried and tried and tried but just can't bring myself to like red wine.
4) I wear sunglasses all the time outside - even on cloudy days.
5) I sleep with a pillow on top of my head. (a habit that started from trying to drown out hubby's snoring)
6) I am no good at 'doing' hair.
7) I laugh hysterically when I get a pedciure as I am insanely ticklish. It's embarassing.

I really don't know who to tag as this meme has been going around for a while now and I think everyone has done it. If you haven't, I sure would love to read yours, so let me know if you do it!

Seriously, I Have a Problem...

I am in love with old ephemera! If this love affair is wrong then I don't want to be right! ;)

I am revelling in this old ledger chock full of doctor's prescriptions dated 1897. A pharmacist's collection lovingly pasted down on both sides of the pages...I love old ledgers but I have never come across one like this before.

The handwriting is exquisite - the prescriptions are from several different doctors and include codeine, liquid arsenic and cannabis (!) just to name a few...

My mind is spinning with the projects I can make with these....including framing, using as wallpaper, scrapbooking, embellishments...decoupage... (I have listed them in my shop as well)

Now, if only this housework would take care of itself and I could get to play!...

Vacation Re-cap

I feel like I have been gone so long I don't even know where to start!

O.K., our trip was great and the weather was fabulous. But truly there is no place like home is there?

Some highlights of the trip...I took over 210 photos!

Here is where I got attacked by Love birds at Ocean World...

This is my hand (which was filled by the attendant with bird feed) I felt like I was in Alfred's Hitchcock's movie!

After temporarily losing my mind I let Jack and hubby swim with stingrays...

What was I thinking?... (truth be told their stingers were removed)

And then the madness continued as they swam with sharks! (that's a shark being placed on their laps)

Ellie liked getting up close and personal with this beautiful Bengal tiger... there's only glass that separates them but it sure looks like there isn't in this photo!

He fancied a dip in the pool after as I caught this picture from the other side...

The wedding on the beach was lovely...Ellie was the flower girl. Now, a seasoned professional, as this was her fourth trip down the aisle...

Hubby and Jack were also in the wedding party - Jack as ring bearer and hubby as Best Man...

Here is a pic with out dear friends Betty and Dalmer from Saskatchewan. We met them 8 years ago in Puerto Plata, just miles from where we are in this pic actually...

Lots of fun was had by all. There were a lot of us who went down for the wedding including my parents, my brother and his wife, my aunt and uncle (2 sets actually) We were quite the crew!

It's always great to get away but coming home is wonderful too. Now excuse me while I go make my bed. Apparently it doesn't make itself! Oh yeah, and approx. 60 loads of laundry are calling...what fun!

Yesterday...

I left temps of 90+ degrees and came home to -22 and tons of snow. Ahhh the joys!

I also came back to 89 emails which was fun! Lots of orders which I will fill tomorrow and get in the mail... :)

Here's a quick snapshot from the wedding...

More tomorrow!

Preparations

Time is flying by before our holidays start...isn't it supposed to drag on? I have a "to-Do" List that is as long as my arm and it just seems to grow, not shrink. And I am one of those people who tend to take things very seriously and feel like the weight the world is on MY shoulders. And it basically is as we all know us Moms are the one who pack for EVERYONE(!) I just love my hubby. He rolls into town the day before we leave and says "Let's Go!" He doesn't quite understand the work and preparation it takes to leave on holiday. Ladies, can I get an "Amen" here? The packing, the organizing, the bill paying, the schoolwork, the banking...I could go on and on. And to top things off the kids had a Science fair project that is due while we are away so we had to do that this past weekend. (have I told you how much I LOATHE science fair projects?!) And add to that, our furnace has broken down. Won't go any higher than 68 degrees. That made for a nice, cozy weekend! :)

Anyhoo, have to take care of a very important errand this morning - a pedicure and manicure! Hopefully that will make me feel a little less stressed.

Thought I'd leave you with a fav old box covered in old wallpaper. I will probably put this on ebay or etsy when I come back...

It's a great place to store your favorite things...

Hmmm, I wonder if I threw my sanity in there?....

Oh yeah, just a little shop note - any orders purchased from Feb 6-20th will only be shipped after Feb 21st. Thanks!
