Bad Dog!

Marley's got nothin' on Wilbur.

It hit me today when I was driving the kids to school. Wilbur hadn't run to the front door when we were leaving. What would keep him from trying to fandangle himself into getting a car ride? "Oh, no..." I thought. "Please, no." (Truth be told, I actually said "Oh, shit." under my breath.)

I remembered that I had left the garbage open. And I had just thrown out some mangy meat - meat that had well past its due date. I had also tossed out some jelly...and then there was last night's dinner scraps from the plates...

I knew it as soon as I got home and opened the door - he didn't jump on it like he usually does. A guilty face stared back at me and instantly I knew. (The dirty, sticky mess around his mouth was an obvious clue as well.) I stomped into the kitchen and he knew the drill - outside he went.

This dog KNOWS when he has done bad and hates it when I am cross with him. As I write this he is sitting on the couch behind me...

This is his "I am guilty - please forgive me Mom - I swear will never do it again" face. (I can't tell you how many times I've seen this.)

All I can say is - it's a good thing you're cute! Off now to prepare for the worst...I'm sure the best is yet to come. (This is where I remind everyone that Wilbur has a very sensitive stomach...)

hi joy. came across you through Romantic Country and was happy to see you are from southern ontario. i am still figuring out blogging myself but i really feel your plight with Wilbur getting into the garbage and had to try and post a suggestion. if your community has green bin recycling that will keep him away from all those things he finds so tempting. love your site. dianne

I'm sure that forgiveness can't be far away with that face looking at you! What a hoot! ~Mindy

Don't they make it hard to stay angry!!! He has such a cute "I'm sorry" face! My dog has a similar expression when he's been "not good". I can't even bring myself to say "bad dog" to him because the word bad makes him so ashamed!

he is cute!

mine do the same, its soooo funny that they know right from wrong. the minute i step in the door, i know if my pup is guilty.

they are too smart but also too cute for their own good!

Oh I have seen that same face on Renoir so many times! Before we got a new coffee maker, I used to find tons and tons of filters of old, soggy coffee grounds strewn on the floor if I left the garbage out. Ick!

Oh, can I relate to this post. I have two toy poodles and the younger one get into things. I found her this morning on top the the coffee table. She is the one that gets into it and the older one waits to see if she gets the goodies and shares. They did that with a candy bar, that's another story in its self. They know when their bad, but yet that does not stop them.

My first time here and what a laugh I've had. I'll be back for more adventures of Wilbur........

Ciao

Ahh, who could be cross at a cutie like that? After all, he was left home alone with no one to keep him company. Everyone's bad once in a while, right?

Hi Joy....first time on your blog, I saw Wilber's picture on the Style Sisters blog and had to drop in and see what this adorable dog was up to...He is the cutest thing...I have a Great Pyrenees so I appreciate "cute" dogs...that get into trouble...Sue.

How can you stay mad at that face for long? I guess you had to deal with some " smelly polluted" air for awhile! Inge

Oh, I love Wilbur. I especially love the fact that he belongs to you and not me. You see, I have Maggie and that's as much as I can handle.

Oh my gosh our chocolate lab does the same things! When I come home and she has done something naughty she literally crawls on her belly to greet me..even before I find out what she did. It could be gettin on our bed and sleeping, digging out trash, eating any food particle that has been left out. It is a darn good thing she is so cute as well. Crazy dog! I must say Wilbur is precious!

Bless you my child. I was actually thinking of Wilbur when I read a review of Marley. I've been down that road for sure, with my Dalmatian, may he rest in peace. It doesn't matter how much they exasperate you, it's still sad when they go.
